MPI 686
Single-sided non-contact thickness measurement system for difficult-to-measure materials
The MPI 686 is a robust thickness measurement system designed for demanding applications where traditional contact-based measurement methods reach their limits. With its single-sided non-contact measurement setup, it is particularly suitable for sticky, wet, textured, or sensitive web materials that still need to be measured stably and reproducibly during the production process. The system combines a roller contact on the underside with non-contact measurement on the top and is designed—depending on the material and application—for magnetinductive or eddy current methods.
Typical applications for the MPI 686 include single-sided adhesive films, wet lithium coatings for battery foils, filter media, nonwoven and felt-based webs as well as materials with raised structures or uneven surfaces. It is precisely with such demanding products that the system demonstrates its strengths, as it enables stable in-line thickness measurement and reliable process monitoring even under difficult conditions. The measurement range from 10 µm to 50 mm covers a wide range of applications; custom measurement ranges are also available.
A key advantage of the MPI 686 lies in its highly customized design. The mechanics, measurement principle, and integration are specifically tailored to material properties, process conditions, and the installation environment. This results in a thickness measurement solution that operates economically and reliably even on complex surfaces. Depending on the model, the system can also be used for roughness evaluations. This measurement principle is not suitable for opaque or transparent films, which is why application-specific testing in advance is particularly important. The MPI 686 is therefore the right solution for companies that require robust, precise, and practical in-line thickness measurement for difficult materials.
